Hand Completion – The Showdown

The player that was called on the river will be the first player to reveal his cards. If no bet was placed on the river, then the player to the left of the dealer will be the first to reveal his cards.

The turn moves clockwise as always. In order to win, a player must show his hand. If a subsequent player has a worse hand than any of the revealed ones, he may choose to muck his hand instead of revealing it.  Should there be a tie, then the pot will be split equally between the winners.

Ties: Only pocket cards that are part of the best possible five card combination can break ties. This means that you can never win a hand if your best hand consists of the five community cards. You can at best get a tie with such a hand. Should there be a tie, then the pot will be split equally between the winners.

Ties Examples

►It is currently the showdown. Your pocket cards are Kc-Kd and the community cards are Kh-Th-6h-Ah-3h. Your opponent's pocket cards are Ac-Tc. The five community cards form a flush. None of you have any pocket cards of the suit Hearts and flush outranks both your trips and your opponent's two pairs. This means that both of you have the flush formed by the community cards. It is a tie and the pot will be split equally between you.

►It is currently the showdown. Your pocket cards are Ad-Jc and the community cards are Ah-Kd-Kc-Qd-Ts. Your opponent's pocket cards are Js-7s. Your best possible hand is a straight with the top card A. The same goes for your opponent. It is a tie and the pot will be split eqally between you.

Upon completion of hand the cards are returned to the dealer and shuffled in preparation of the next hand. The dealer button and blinds are also moved one position clockwise at this point.

Poker Curiosa - The Winner's Right

In a live game, the winner of the showdown can demand that all losing hands are revealed, even if they have been mucked, but this is considered bad manners.
