Texas Hold'em Rules Introduction

Hold’em which is short for Texas Hold’em has since onset of the 2nd millenium become the most popular variant of poker both live and online. The game is based on the standard poker rules but it has its own set of rules built upon that foundation. When playing poker with Texas Hold'em rules the hand formation is very different from the simple draw poker you were likely taught as a kid where all players have distinct cards that be discarded and substituted. In Texas Hold'em you share the majority of cards with all other players and you don't get a complete hand right from the start. Hold'em is designed for betting and it is one of the most thrilling variants of poker you will ever play. We will fully explain all the Texas Hold'em rules in this part of the school and you can rest assured that nothing will be left out. We will start with the table setup and then move on to the hand formation and the associated betting rounds. The tour will be concluded with a quick glance at the three different betting structures employed in poker; namely, Fixed Limit, No Limit and Pot Limit.

Poker Trivia

Texas Hold'em Rules History

Not much is known about the origins of Texas Hold'em but legend has it that the Texas Hold'em rules saw the light of day in Robstown, Texas in the early 1900s. The story goes that the Texas Hold'em rules were invented to work around a shortage of cards that arose one late night in a crowded saloon when too many players had to share a deck of 52. The game, originally known as Hold'em, is said to have reached Dallas, Texas in 1925 and later have been introduced in Las Vegas by card players from Texas. The game started to gain popularity in the 1970s, owing this in large to the poker tournament World Series of Poker, but it was not until the beginning of the 21st century, and the online poker explosion, that Texas Hold'em became the undisputed king of poker. WSOP has been organized annually at the Horseshoe hotel & casino in Las Vegas ever since 1970 and the Texas Hold'em rules have been used since the very beginning. It would in fact be hard to imagine a World Series of Poker without the Texas Hold'em rules and it would be even harder to imagine online poker without Texas Hold'em.
